Our vacation drew to a magical close today and we are turning our focus back to treatment. But before we do, I’ll mention our trip briefly with the promise of a complete post later in the week. Maggie chose the location, fittingly, and you can guess where we went. Before you assume, I need to mention the weather – glorious – with highs in the lower 80s and lows in the lower 60s. It gave us just enough hint of fall to get us excited. The second clue is in the picture I’m sharing. All-in-all a “practically perfect in every way” getaway.
As we left the clinic this past Monday, I had a brief twinge of second guessing our decision to delay treatment for a week. We hastily made trip plans thinking there might be a good chance we would be changing chemo regimens. Upon finding out we would stay the course (stable scans), it seemed to make more sense to get another treatment in at the first opportunity. But God led us in another direction, and, not only are His ways perfect, He graciously confirms to us we made the right call. We didn’t get Maggie’s blood count results until later in the week, but when we did, we learned her platelets were below the threshold needed to proceed with a chemo infusion. We would have been sent home to wait a week. (clarification: in our excitement over the scans, I forgot to ask for blood work results. Doctors would not have allowed it had we decided to move in that direction. I’m sure that was one reason we were heartily encouraged to proceed with our plans.) What a perfect time for a break from treatment and the heat and humidity of South Mississippi.
But now we need a platelet count high enough to allow a treatment tomorrow. That’s our main prayer request. And, of course, for effective treatment with minimal side effects. I’ll post as soon as I can on our status. And I promise a longer post with a few details and photos of our trip. Thank you for prayers and spending your precious time to provide support. We love you. Good night.
