Life has started to resemble a whirlwind again. Since we’re praying for fast movement we’ll accept it as a good thing. I’ll give you a recap…
Saturday we had an initial call from administration at MD Anderson (let’s call it MDA, shall we?) asking for more information (insurance etc). She said we had a case manager and the staff would proceed with evaluating Maggie as a patient when they received medical records. Monday morning I called the CCC and left a message for the nurse coordinating the transfer of records to find out when they would be sent. I also left word for Dr. Collier asking him if it would be possible to have some type of chemo treatment this week if we had a long wait for an appointment at MDA. It’s been two months since Maggie had her last treatment before the surgery break.
The CCC nurse called back Tuesday morning to tell me the records had been sent via Fed-EX on Friday. (I’ve told you they’re good at Batson). Tuesday afternoon I had a call from Dr. Collier explaining why it wouldn’t be a good idea to restart any chemo prior to the consult at MDA. He said many times there will be a minimum recommended time between administering different chemo drugs to avoid interactions. He did not want to do anything here that might delay the start of treatment there. Makes sense! He also informed me I would be getting a call from MDA any minute to schedule our appointment. Sure enough, our case manager called and gave us the date: October 12 – three weeks away. I asked her if we could be put on a waiting list for any cancellations to get in sooner. She said yes she would be watching – it happens from time to time. We started praying for an earlier appointment.
Today our case manager called to tell us Maggie’s case had officially been accepted, and she had snagged a cancellation and put Maggie’s name on it. We now have an appointment next Thursday, Sept. 29th. We’ll leave Wednesday. When I called to tell Phil, he said, “I know, MDA called.” I asked him how he knew. He said, “I just did. I’ve been praying.” Three other people in my prayer circle had been praying specifically for a an earlier appointment. Many of you have been praying for the process to move quickly. God answers our prayers.
Keep praying. Maggie is having a kidney issue we will have checked tomorrow possibly related to stone activity. Dr. Ross is working her in at 7:30 am. She is not presently in discomfort.
This sounds like the craziest statement I’ve ever made, but here goes. We need her health to stay good (no unrelated conditions, illnesses, etc) for there to be no obstacles to whatever treatment is before her. The MDA case manager asked me today to describe Maggie’s general condition right now. “Is she eating? That kind of thing.” I don’t know if she could hear me smile through the phone. How do you explain the miraculous grace of God? Phil says it best: If the doctors weren’t telling us she was sick, we would not know she was. We are thankful to God for His hand on her, for working through the incredible people at Batson to flawlessly deliver 2-1/2 years of medical records (Dr. Collier laughed when he told me MDA requested the records be faxed. They had no idea!), for working through the MDA people to get Maggie accepted and scheduled in under a week for an appointment one week away!
I told Phil today, “I’m ok with boring. I would welcome it.” Since we’re not going to see boring any time soon, I’ll take the whirlwind as long as God is in control of it. We’ll continue to report and praise Him from the eye of the storm.
God is in the midst of it all. I have watched Him the whole way. God grant you grace to see this through. I send love and hugs along with unceasing prayers.
Gotta love a whirlwind!!! I’m so thankful for the cancellation!! Can I get an “Amen?!!!” Prayers for Mags to continue feeling well except for the pesky kidneys. Love y’all!
We will stay in the throne room on Maggie’s behalf. Pray without ceasing.
There is a wonderful place to stay near MD Anderson called the Mercy House. My friend Renee Stein stayed there for months while her husband was a patient at MD Anderson. Several families share the house and cook together in a “family” atmosphere. It was such a blessing to Renee. If you want, I can get more information on it and see if they have a vacancy. It was a true ministry to Renee
Praying continually for Maggie and all of you and the doctors at MDA! Praying for complete healing and for Maggie to feel good too!
Praying for the healing hand of our Saviour to reach down and provide complete healing for Maggie and peace and comfort for the entire family.
