Maggie was admitted to 3C (pediatric oncology floor) at Batson through the ER today. She has been in near constant pain with nausea since before we left from Houston to return home yesterday. She spiked a fever of 102.5 this morning at which time I spoke with the on-call oncologist before bringing her to the ER. Now the plan is to find any source of infection (we know she had a low grade UTI several weeks ago), treat her with fluids to counteract dehydration, and get her pain/nausea under control. We feel God’s calming peace and a deep level of comfort being at “home” on 3C. We do appreciate prayers for Maggie to experience relief from pain and get some rest.

One big praise to report today. This is our first experience with a direct admit through the ER (a compromise practice to allow Maggie, now 19, to bypass using the adult ER unless she reports with an unstable health situation). We were checked-in, triaged, and shown to a room on 3c within 30 minutes of reporting. Thank you, Batson.

You may wonder what this bump in the road means for the clinical trial next week. We’re not sure. We’re concentrating on Maggie’s comfort and care for her immediate needs first. We’ll know more when tests are completed. We’ll have Maggie’s doctors in both clinics coordinate with each other tomorrow. For now, we’re resting and waiting.

I’ll update with more information as we have it. Thank you for prayers!
