We got a call today from Dr. Collier with Maggie’s PET scan report. It’s a mixed bag. The chest area – lungs, sternum – is stable when compared to the last scan. However, the liver showed a noticeable increase in metabolic activity. This indicates a mixed response to chemo, so a change is recommended. We will be switching the “MAB” (monoclonal antibody) portion of Maggie’s regimen from Panitumumab to Cetuximab. She’ll still receive the full FOLFIRI component. We have an 8:00 am appointment at the CCC for an exam, consent signing and admission for chemo. If all goes according to plan, we’ll stay until Saturday.

We are disappointed although not totally surprised with the report. We will be watching Maggie’s response to the change in chemo closely via the CEA (tumor marker) tests. We will also be reaching out to UAB and MDA to begin the search for a desirable clinical trial involving immunotherapy. We still feel this is our most promising option (if Cetuximab doesn’t provide the response we need).

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement across another bump in the road. We’re determined to keep the faith and persevere. We’re eternally grateful to have each of you sharing this journey. We love you!
