Quick update from Batson:

Maggie is currently receiving the third drug (of three) of her chemo regimen – 5FU. This is the 48 hour infusion that will conclude tomorrow (Monday) around noon. For the most part, she has tolerated these infusions extremely well. In 2015-2016 when she had the same regimen she was given a “mab” drug at the beginning. Mab drugs (monoclonal antibodies) can cause various degrees of reaction, so Benadryl is given first. She never developed a reaction. Yesterday, minus a mab drug, no Benadryl was given. Shortly after starting Ironitecan, Maggie noticed her tongue and throat swelling significantly. Upon letting the nurse know, she was given a large amount of Benadryl and the reaction began to subside. We had started to get a little concerned. We’re thankful for calm, experienced nurses who have seen everything under the sun. The rest of the day passed without incident in a Benadryl-Morphine haze. And I have to brag: Maggie was the one to make the connection between having Benadryl to mask the effects of Ironitecan during prior infusions. She’s going to make a good nurse! Nausea and upset stomach have been well controlled with meds. Maggie’s back pain is also well-controlled. She truly has been resting comfortably. She is enjoying catching up with her Batson nurses and was able to watch all of Miss Mississippi last night. Molly and the OnePraise team have safely arrived in Orlando and will be leading worship twice today.

Thank you for prayers, offers of food and company, and friendship. We have the best support in the world. We’ll update again – hopefully from home.
